Ingredients

  • 400 gms (0.89 lb) tofu (firm)
  • 240 mls (1 cup) plain yogurt
  • 2 garlic (minced) cloves
  • 1 tbsp ginger (grated)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tsps garam masala
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsps oil
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 240 mls (1 cup) tomato puree
  • 240 mls (1 cup) heavy cream
  • 2 tbsps fresh cilantro (chopped)

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu to remove excess water and cut it into cubes.
  2. In a bowl, mix yogurt, minced garlic, grated ginger, lemon juice, garam masala, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt.
  3. Add tofu cubes to the marinade, mix well to coat the tofu, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  4. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Arrange marinated tofu cubes on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  5. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  6. Add tomato puree and cook for about 5-7 minutes.
  7. Add the baked tofu cubes to the pan and mix well.
  8. Stir in heavy cream and let it simmer for another 5-10 minutes.
  9. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan.

  • Tofu Tikka Masala is a delicious vegetarian alternative to the traditional chicken version.
  • Marinating the tofu overnight will enhance the flavors.
