Ingredients

  • 400 gms (0.89 lb) tofu, firm
  • 2 tbsps soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp chili paste
  • 2 tsps Szechuan peppercorns
  • 1 tbsp ginger, minced
  • 2 tsps garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 2 tbsps vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar

Instructions

  1. Drain and press the tofu for at least 15 minutes then cut into cubes.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat.
  3. Add tofu cubes and fry until golden on all sides. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same pan, add remaining vegetable oil and sauté garlic and ginger for 30 seconds.
  5. Add sliced bell pepper and cook until slightly tender, about 2-3 minutes.
  6. Stir in Szechuan peppercorns and chili paste, mixing well.
  7. Return tofu to the pan and add soy sauce, sugar, and rice vinegar.
  8. Toss everything to combine and heat through.
  9. Garnish with chopped green onions before serving.

Notes

  • For a more authentic taste, use freshly ground Szechuan peppercorns.
  • Adjust the amount of chili paste based on your heat preference.
