Ingredients

  • 500 gms (1.11 lbs) beef sirloin
  • 60 mls (0.25 cup) soy sauce
  • 2 tbsps brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 3 green onions
  • 2 tsps sesame seeds
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 12 butter lettuce leaves
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 carrot

Instructions

  1. Thinly slice the beef sirloin into strips.
  2. In a large bowl, mix soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, chopped green onions, sesame seeds, and red pepper flakes to create the marinade.
  3. Add the beef strips to the marinade, making sure they are well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  4. Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat (about 175°C / 350°F).
  5. Cook the marinated beef strips for about 2-3 minutes on each side until fully cooked and slightly charred.
  6. Prepare the butter lettuce leaves by washing and patting them dry.
  7. Slice the cucumber and carrot into thin matchstick strips.
  8. To assemble, place a few strips of cooked beef onto each butter lettuce leaf, add cucumber and carrot strips.
  9. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Marinate the beef for at least 2 hours for best flavor
  • Can be served with kimchi on the side
