Ingredients
- 500 gms (1.11 lbs) thinly sliced beef (preferably ribeye or sirloin)
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 250 mls (1.04 cups) water
- 1 tbsp dashi powder
- 4 tbsps soy sauce
- 4 tbsps mirin
- 2 tbsps sake
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 960 mls (4 cups) cooked Japanese short-grain rice
- 1 pickled ginger (beni shoga) optional
- 1 green onions, chopped optional
- 1 onsen tamago (hot spring egg) optional
Instructions
- In a pan, combine water and dashi powder. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Add soy sauce, mirin, sake, and sugar. Stir until sugar is dissolved.
- Add the thinly sliced onion to the pan and let it simmer until the onions are soft.
- Add the thinly sliced beef to the pan and cook until the beef is no longer pink. This should take about 5-7 minutes.
- Serve the beef and onions over bowls of cooked rice.
- Garnish with pickled ginger, chopped green onions, and onsen tamago as desired.
