Ingredients

  • 4 tbsps soy sauce
  • 4 tbsps mirin
  • 2 tbsps sake
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 960 mls (4 cups) cooked Japanese short-grain rice
  • 1 pickled ginger (beni shoga) optional
  • 1 green onions, chopped optional
  • 1 onsen tamago (hot spring egg) optional

Instructions

  1. In a pan, combine water and dashi powder. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Add soy sauce, mirin, sake, and sugar. Stir until sugar is dissolved.
  3. Add the thinly sliced onion to the pan and let it simmer until the onions are soft.
  4. Add the thinly sliced beef to the pan and cook until the beef is no longer pink. This should take about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Serve the beef and onions over bowls of cooked rice.
  6. Garnish with pickled ginger, chopped green onions, and onsen tamago as desired.
